John Terry is very close to taking charge of Middlesbrough, which will also be his first team in his career as a coach.
The former Chelsea and England legend has met with club chairman Steve Gibson this week as a deal appears close to being completed.
Middlesbrough sacked Tony Pulis on 17 May after a poor run of form in the Championship, failing to return to the Premier League by just one point.
John Terry is currently assistant to Aston Villa coach Dean Smith, who are very close to returning to the Premier League as they face Frank Lampard’s Derby in the play-off final.
Middlesbrough have reportedly offered Terry a one-year contract, but the latter wants a three-year deal with a salary of around €1.5m per season.
Lampard named the five best team-mates of his career, bypassing Scholes and Gerrard
Frank Lampard overlooked his former England team-mate Paul Scholes and Steven Gerrard when he named the best teammates he played with during his career.
Lampard will go down in history as one of the best midfielders of his generation, having enjoyed a stellar career in English football.
After playing for West Ham United as a youth, Lampard made his first-team debut for the Hammers in 1995 before joining Chelsea in 2001.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Lampard developed into a world-class player, scoring 211 goals in 648 games and lifting numerous trophies including the Premier League and Champions League.
The midfielder then joined Manchester City and New York City FC before ending his illustrious career in 2016.
On the international stage, Lampard played 106 times for England, scoring 29 goals and playing alongside a host of world-class players including Scholes, Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Didier Drogba.
However, he ignored midfield rivals Scholes and Gerrard when naming his five best teammates.
During an interview with Planet Football, Lampard picked Terry, Drogba, Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola and Sergio Aguero as his five best teammates.
“First of all they are great footballers, but they are also winners and that is what distinguishes them from most players. In the big games, these people made the difference”, Lampard initially said about Terry and Drogba.
The 46-year-old then turned his attention to Hazard, saying: “There’s no limit to how far he can go. Hazard is the most talented player I have played with and on his day he is unstoppable. He has said he wants to be up there with the best players in the world and he has the talent to do that, he just needs to add the consistency and goals of a Messi or a Ronaldo to be considered in that class.”
“He [Zola] means a lot to Chelsea fans. Of all the foreign players who came to the club at the start of the new era if you will, Zola is the one the fans loved more than any other. He was fantastic on and off the field. A great boy and a fantastic footballer”.
Recently, Lampard touched Aguero; The pair shared a dressing room during the Englishman’s move to Manchester City in 2014.
“I didn’t stay at Man City for long, but you could see straight away that this guy was world class. The goals he scored on the training pitch every day were terrifying and he took that to the pitch. “You only have to look at his record since he came to City to appreciate what a class he is and he was great to play with,” the Englishman concluded.
