ALDERSHOT Town has disclosed that manager Tommy Widdrington had two strokes last week but has “reacted well.” Widdrington was sent to Southend Hospital early on Thursday morning after becoming ill on Wednesday, November 27.
Widdrington suffered two strokes, according to the results of the 53-year-old’s thorough scans and testing.
He has since been monitored and received further tests in line with treatment for an ischaemic stroke.
Aldershot released a statement on X from Widdrington’s family, which read: “Being of good health prior to Wednesday, and historically in general, his response to this episode and the initial treatment has been very encouraging.
“He has made very good progress and is feeling and looking a lot better already.
“He returned home late Tuesday afternoon to begin further rehabilitation.
“He is really grateful for all of the kind messages he has gotten from football fans worldwide.
Additionally, he wants the Shots supporters to know that he has complete faith in the players and staff while he is away and that he looks forward to returning to the dugout when he is judged well enough to do so.
Naturally, Tommy’s wife, Sharon, and his immediate family have come together to support his recuperation and will do so going forward. They have written this statement in the hopes that it would stop any false information from spreading.
“We ask that Tommy and his family’s privacy be respected while he continues his recovery,” the club continued.
In 2010, Widdrington briefly served as assistant manager of Southend United.
