After the Ohio State Buckeyes demoralizing loss to their bitter rival Michigan the disappointment has only grown larger with Ryan Day in Columbus coaching the Buckeyes football team. Non-Ohio State fans that have fandom outside of the Big 10 Conference do not understand how bitter and deeply rooted this rivalry is.
After an embarrassing loss to Michigan, a 7-5 team that has maximum attrition of their roster to the NFL draft, if Ryan Day could not lead his Buckeyes over an inferior Michigan team, it may never happen
Rumors can turn into smoke and become fire as reported by Jay Crawford former ESPN anchor and Ohio native. Crawford said he spoke with two people close to Urban Meyer, who said that he’s not only open, but possibly quite interested in returning to the Buckeyes. Jay Crawford went on and said on the “Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show”: Urban never wanted to leave Ohio State, his hand was forced because the administration at the time did not like how powerful Urban had become at the university, and so there was a real power struggle. “Note the two main players that forced Urban out- and that’s what it was- are gone”.
Urban Meyer released a statement via the triple option podcast. A statement from Meyer: “It has come to my attention that there are reports speculating my return to the sidelines in Columbus. While I thoroughly enjoyed my seven seasons as head coach at the Ohio State University, I have no interest in coaching again. I will always be a Buckeye and have full confidence in Ryan Day, his staff, and every player that puts on the Scarlet and Gray”.
I will add my two cents. We all know this is a tough spot for Urban Meyer to be in and to calm the noise down with The Ohio State Buckeyes still in the college football playoff. You want Ryan Day to be able to coach freely without stress over Day’s job in jeopardy. But if Ryan Day and the Buckeyes lose in the first round of the playoffs after spending $20 million on this roster, change will be needed. Urban Meyer said before he would not coach after stepping down at the University of Florida due to health-related issues and after a year, Meyer took the Ohio State University football head coaching position and returned to the sidelines. This is what the Buckeyes need to happen again to get back to their championship ways
